As part of our big road trip, we decided to stay at my family’s home in Southern Pines, NC as a way to break up the trip … Continue reading Betsy’s Crepes
Oh, sweet Petite Jacqueline! I know little about French culture or cuisine (other than my favorite Scratch croissants and Pepé Le Pew), and definitely look to … Continue reading Petite Jacqueline
I love a good basement establishment – maybe it’s the speakeasy-feel of the bar, or the idea that you’re onto a good secret when you hop … Continue reading Bar Louis
I’m not quite sure of the details, but the last time we stayed at Hotel Fauchère the inn’s cafe, Pâtisserie Fauchère, was closed. The next morning before we made … Continue reading Pâtisserie Fauchère
Prior to our trip to Oregon I began researching restaurants in the city and came up with a list of possibilities for us – a Google doc I shared with Michael, and even with our friend Alex, a Portland-area expert! I remember finding a link to Clyde Common from a bakery who supplies their bread, and immediately moved it to the top of the list because I was impressed by their website’s branding. (Being in creative industries, Michael and I are happy to admit that we are suckers for good branding, which has many times in the past led us … Continue reading Clyde Common
Doughnuts? I’m there. I’m an anxious person by nature and get a little fidgety standing waiting around, but the line for Voodoo Doughnut that went out the door wrapped around the block, was more than worth it in my book. If I lived or worked anywhere near this delicious treat, you could guarantee that my waist would be quite a bit larger and my blood sugar quite a bit higher. These aren’t your Granny’s doughnuts, with names like the Old Dirty Bastard (which I can personally vouch for), pentagram and voodoo doll decorations, and toppings like Fruit Loops and M&M’s, … Continue reading Voodoo Doughnut
MacKenzie & Philip were filming the wedding that I was in town shooting, so on the morning of the wedding we decided to fuel up at their go-to breakfast spot just down the street from their adorable bungalow – Guglhupf. They knew I’d love the food, but they also anticipated that I’d appreciate the design and decor of the restaurant as well. Of course, they were spot on! I fell instantly for the industrial & contemporary, yet warming feel of the entire place! Our meals – pancakes, scrambled eggs, and a veggie gruyere omelet – were fantastic! After we finished up, … Continue reading Guglhupf
My sister lived around the corner from Parker and Otis in a beautiful loft-style apartment in West Village for a year or two before she & Philip were married in 2010. She mentioned her trips to Parker and Otis practically weekly, and having visited it for myself, I can now understand why she was so taken with it. Not only is it a scrumptious cafe, but the building is home to all kinds of artisanal & speciality foods, cookbooks, home goods, cookware, and gifts. I literally could have spent hours pouring over the books and the paper goods alone! It … Continue reading Parker and Otis
