Revisit: Hotel Fauchere

Hotel Fauchere in the Fall

As a way to break up our most recent road trip to North Carolina, Michael and I decided to leave a little later on Thursday and stop in Milford, PA at one of our favorite places, Hotel Fauchère. As we were preparing to leave the night before our trip, we talked about how comforting it is to know that the next night on the road would be spent at a hotel we knew and loved. There were no unknowns for us at Hotel Fauchère, and on top of being luxuriously comfortable, we knew that the hotel was suited perfectly for Orvis, something we always have to consider when traveling with our 90-pound dog. Of course, we were also looking forward to experiencing another delicious meal at Bar Louis, one of the two hotel’s two restaurants!

We’ve had the chance to stay at Hotel Fauchère three times this year alone (which in my opinion says more about this hotel than I could write in a single blog post), once in the late winter, another time in the summer, and earlier this month when the leaves in Milford were at their peak! Before our dinner reservation, we took a walk with Orvis around a neighborhood we’d not previously visited and circled back through familiar areas. The tree-lined streets were full of quintessential fall charm, which only made us wish we could stay longer – a feeling that always seems to accompany our Hotel Fauchère visits. We popped into our favorite shop in town, Upriver Home, and picked up the outdoor thermometer we spotted back in March and a brass coaster for Michael’s desk.

As we got ready to head downstairs for dinner, we felt another overwhelming sense of comfort, knowing that we were surely in for a delicious meal at Bar Louis. Michael’s braised lamb shank hit the spot, and my pumpkin risotto was almost too lovely to eat! The next morning’s meal of muffins, bruléed grapefruit, granola, and homemade yogurt, has left us wanting to book yet another stay at Hotel Fauchère, simply for the heavenly yogurt.

On our trip back up to Maine we came very close to taking the Milford exit on the highway, but we finally decided that we’d much rather plan a trip to Hotel Fauchère when Milford is the final destination. We’re too often sad that we don’t have more time to experience the charming area and relax around the beautiful inn. Fingers crossed we’re able to plan a trip like that at some point next year!

  1. I’m with you: the Fauchere is a truly great small American hotel. We live in New Jersey and have a cottage in Maine; lovely to share the Fauchere with our dogs and with you.
