Vote

Today, Meredith and I were going to post about Sunday’s delicious brunch at Petite Jacqueline, but thought that it’d be better to save that for another day, because today, there should one thing to do on most people’s minds – voting.

We’ll save you the kitschy speech about the privilege to vote, and any lengthy discussion about Democrats vs. Republicans (you’ve probably already made up your mind on that one), but we just want to urge you, if you haven’t already, to get out and vote today – we will be.

Regardless of what side of the aisle you’re on, there is one topic that we hope Mainers will spend a little extra time considering today – Question 1: Maine’s Initiative on Same-Sex Marriage. Regardless of your own definition of marriage, please look past this, and realize that this issue boils down to a basic civil right and liberty that should be afforded to every last person. Under the constitution, all people are equal, and I honestly cannot think of a single legitimate justification to not be voting “yes” on question one today. I could rant and rave for hours about this subject, about generation-defining decisions to put aside traditional norms and to protect civil liberties, but I’ll cut to the chase – protect equality, support civil rights, and Vote YES on One.

So get out and vote today. It doesn’t take long (there are 8,766 hours in a year), and you’ll feel pretty awesome about yourself afterwards. Please just do it.

Oh, it’s not really subtle, but if you need to know where your local polling place is, our buddy Obama has you covered!

  1. Thank you so much for your support of Question 1! Love is love, commitment is commitment and these are beautiful things that should be permited to be shared by all in the same way!
