Palmetto Bluff

Set in the heart of the ‘Carolina Lowcountry’ between Charleston and Savannah, it’s hard to imagine a more quintessential southern retreat than that of Palmetto Bluff, in Bluffton, South Carolina. With over 20,000 acres of lowcountry land and 32 miles of riverfront, set out with a mindset towards environmental conservation, the planned community seems to stand as an island in its own right – cut off from the hustle and bustle of it’s big city neighbors by a buffer of marshes, forests and rivers. It’s almost easy to forget your destination on the 4 mile drive from front gate to village square, but once you arrive, the only thing slipping your mind is the world outside the community.

The Inn at Palmetto Bluff

It’s no wonder why The Inn at Palmetto Bluff has racked up more ‘Best of’ awards than you can count – we had barely gotten out of the car before slipping into that vacation state of mind. View pictures and read more about the Inn at Palmetto Bluff here.

Canoe Club

While the thought of relaxing and ordering room service was tempting after a couple of days of non-stop driving, we knew we’d regret not trying as many of the restaurants as we could. As it turns out, this was probably the best decision we made throughout the whole trip – our experience at the Canoe Club has proven to be one of our shared favorite meals of all-time. View pictures and read more about the Canoe Club here.

Buffalos

Buffalos is located in the heart of Palmetto Bluff’s cute downtown, Wilson Village, and offers its diners a casual, relaxed atmosphere with views of the May River, the Chapel, and the old Wilson home ruins in the Village Square. During our short stay at Palmetto Bluff we ate lunch outside under the bold, red umbrellas with Orvis twice – we loved the food and the setting that much! View pictures and read more about Buffalos here.

River House Restaurant

After enduring winter in Maine, we were more than ready for our first al fresco meal in months, and honestly, I couldn’t imagine a better place to enjoy dinner outside, than the porch of the River House, with its classic, southern charm and beautiful view of the May River. View pictures and read more about the River House Restaurant here.
