A Map & Menu Weekend: 02.24-02.26

Dutch Baby Piccolo

Last week, I learned that I had to get back into my dreaded walking boot to treat a new injury to the broken bone in my right foot that I’ve been trying (without much success) to heal for the better part of a year now. Needless to say, I was pretty disheartened over the news that I’d be clunking around in that boot again, so in an attempt to make the most of my prescribed inactivity, Michael and I set out to see as many Oscar nominated films as we could this weekend before last night’s awards show. We crossed off Manchester by the Sea on Friday and continued down through the list by catching Lion at the theater on Saturday before returning home to watch Hell or High Water that night.

I almost didn’t think I had it in me to see a fourth film in one weekend, but after a deliciously filling brunch at Piccolo (complete with chicken and waffles and a Nutella dutch baby) on Sunday morning, the only reasonable cure for our food coma was to catch a matinee showing of Hidden Figures while we were out. By the time the Oscars aired last night, we’d seen an impressive six of the nine nominees for Best Picture. We laughed at ourselves because we knew going into this Oscar marathon that we wouldn’t even be able to stay up to see which film won the most coveted award, but after a relaxing weekend of Hollywood escape, I really don’t think I would’ve changed a thing.
