As a teen growing up in southeastern Connecticut, Lauren Maker Siviski would compulsively rearrange the furniture in her childhood bedroom, and frequently offered up (sometimes unsolicited) interior design advice to her mother. Today, in Portland, Maine, as an expectant mother herself, Lauren spends her days carefully selecting unique goods (still frequently rearranging them) to sell in her new, beautifully-lit corner shop on Silver Street – Fitz & Bennett Home.
Lauren opened the shop (named for both of her grandmothers) because she saw a gap in the Portland market to help locals find high quality, yet affordable, goods for the home. Colorful pillows from Parisian lifestyle brand Jamini dot the store, and perfectly complement the minimal, abstract landscapes of local artist Sarah Madeira Day and photography by Megan Boltz. Luxurious candles from Charleston-based MacBailey Candle Co. (a new personal favorite) and blankets from Maine’s Harlow Henry really up the shop’s cozy vibe, and it definitely doesn’t take long to wander over to the best smelling spot in the store – a table full of products from the food-inspired, all-natural skincare line, Etta & Billie.
It seems as though there are gifts at Fitz & Bennett Home waiting to be shared with just about everyone in your life – family, parents of young children, food enthusiasts and entertainers, lovers of paper goods, or pretty much anyone who simply appreciates thoughtful design and beauty.
Be sure to pop in Fitz & Bennett Home at 43 Silver Street this holiday season and follow along on the shop’s lovely Instagram.
