One of my favorite bloggers, Joanna Goddard of A Cup of Jo, has never steered us in the wrong direction when it comes to food in New York. During our last visit we had dinner at Schiller’s upon her recommendation, and I only wish that we’d been doing Map & Menu at the time to share such an amazing dinner. When mapping out our meals for our most recent trip, I once again took a look at her ‘Guide to New York‘ and found Co. (pronounced ‘company’) listed among her 10 favorite restaurants in the city. Knowing that I didn’t want to explicitly plan every single one of our meals, I kept Co. in the back of my mind, and when Saturday night rolled around and we wanted something super low-key, I suggested grabbing some pizza at Co., and Michael was more than on board.

I’m not going to lie, reading that Joanna & her family have seen Martha Stewart & Michael Kors eating at Co. on more than one occasion was probably what piqued my interest in the first place. When we sat down for dinner, however, celebrity sightings were the furthest thing from my mind. Looking around, we were immediately impressed with the modern, minimalist aesthetic, yet incredibly relaxed & comfortable vibe of the restaurant.

We began our meal with an order of veal meatballs & a Bronx Brewery American Pale Ale for Michael, and a bowl of ribollita & a glass of red wine for me. We were as happy as could be with our first course, but the real show-stopper was our pizza, the Shiitake Pie, featuring a caramelized onion-walnut puree, olive oil, rosemary, and sea salt. For people who love and appreciate each individual ingredient on this pizza, Michael and I were in love! By the end of the night, we both sounded like a broken record – we kept going on and on about how this was exactly the meal and dining experience we needed after such a whirlwind two days in the city, and we’ve been playing the same tune and singing Co.’s praise ever since we’ve returned.
