David’s 388

David's 388 Maine

It’s shocking to think that having lived in our neighborhood for nearly three years, that we’ve only experienced the fantastic meals at David’s 388, just around the corner from us, twice during that time. (I guess that also goes to show how many incredible restaurants we have surrounding us in the greater Portland area!)

In the spirit of Maine Restaurant Week we decided to visit this neighborhood gem of ours, to take advantage of the evening’s specials. We began our night out with a couple of cocktails, the Mayfair for me and a Dark & Stormy for Michael, and shared our appetizers – crispy Asian potstickers & brie fondue. Our meal could have simply ended there and we would have been as happy as could be, but lucky for us, we had two more courses! Michael was exceptionally pleased with his breast of duck (served with garlic, ginger, & soy Sautern with grilled sesame iceberg and charred sweet sticky rice). He kept going on and on about how delicious his meal was, but also how all the individual parts of his meal seemed to complement each other so well. My mushroom ravioli (with white truffle oil, arugla, tomato, and goat cheese) was incredible! Even though I was gradually getting fuller, I simply didn’t want the meal to end. I tried to savor every last bite!

At this point in our meal, the fact that we’d only visited David’s 388 twice despite it’s close proximity to our home seemed absurd. We made a vow to not let a year go by before we return. Our promise was only further strengthened by the arrival of our desserts- his vanilla bean creme brulee and my pecan & white chocolate tartlette (with warm bourbon sauce!) After polishing those off all too quickly, we couldn’t wait to plan another visit to David’s 388, perhaps when it’s a bit warmer so we can enjoy a neighborhood stroll afterwards.
