Summer 2016: First Week

Sailing in Camden

The first official week of summer 2016 was certainly one for the books! From picnicking at Fisherman’s Point with Orvis on Monday, to capping off the week on Sunday with a ride through the waters of the Sheepscot on my family’s boat, this last seven days reminded us just how grateful we are for these short, but sweet Maine summers of ours. We know good and well that every week won’t be filled with private climbs up the Portland Head Light with friends, or morning sails aboard a schooner in Camden, but whatever the activity, we’ll soak up every last drop.

The timing for this week couldn’t have been better. I’ve been sidelined from any and all physical activity for the last two months as I nurse a stress fracture in my foot, and it’s been very easy for me to focus on all of the things I can’t do outside this summer. This week proved that even without my beloved neighborhood dog walks, hikes in the woods, morning runs, or afternoon bike rides, I can still partake in all kinds of summer fun.
