Earlier this spring when Michael and I shared our fantastic experience at Palmetto Bluff on Map & Menu, we were floored when Todd Phillips, the outlet manager, sommelier, and the creator of the cocktails we raved about in this post, reached out to us! He kindly offered his expertise on cocktail creation or pairings if we ever needed any advice. Of course, this got us thinking about beginning a Q&A series with all of the inspiring people with whom we’ve connected since beginning Map & Menu. We’re thrilled to introduce this new series for the blog with Todd Phillips, the … Continue reading Q&A: Todd Phillips, Palmetto Bluff
Set in the heart of the ‘Carolina Lowcountry’ between Charleston and Savannah, it’s hard to imagine a more quintessential southern retreat than that of Palmetto Bluff, in Bluffton, South Carolina. With over 20,000 acres of lowcountry land and 32 miles of riverfront, set out with a mindset towards environmental conservation, the planned community seems to stand as an island in its own right – cut off from the hustle and bustle of it’s big city neighbors by a buffer of marshes, forests and rivers. It’s almost easy to forget your destination on the 4 mile drive from front gate to … Continue reading Palmetto Bluff, SC

During our drive down to Palmetto Bluff we began researching the property’s restaurants and discovered that the Canoe Club was closed two out of the three nights we’d be staying at the resort, so we decided to make a reservation for the one night it’d be open during our stay – the first night! While the thought of relaxing and ordering room service was tempting after a couple of days of non-stop driving, we knew we’d regret not trying as many of the restaurants as we could. As it turns out, this was probably the best decision we made throughout … Continue reading Canoe Club
Buffalos is located in the heart of Palmetto Bluff’s cute downtown, Wilson Village, and offers its diners a casual, relaxed atmosphere with views of the May River, the Chapel, and the old Wilson home ruins in the Village Square. During our short stay at Palmetto Bluff we ate lunch outside under the bold, red umbrellas with Orvis twice – we loved the food and the setting that much! A local South Carolina beer, the Thomas Creek Ale, caught Michael’s eye during our first meal, and he liked it so much that he ordered it again the following day! I kicked … Continue reading Buffalos
For our last meal at Palmetto Bluff we decided to dine outside on the porch of the River House. After enduring winter in Maine, we were more than ready for our first al fresco meal in months, and honestly, I couldn’t imagine a better place to enjoy dinner outside, than the porch of the River House, with its classic, southern charm and beautiful view of the May River. Earlier that afternoon, we had stopped by the River House for a couple of cocktails after our leisurely bike ride around the bluff (Oh, vacation!), where Michael & I sipped our drinks … Continue reading River House Restaurant
